Derek Bentley is a Managing Director at Nomura Greentech.
Based in New York, Derek leads Nomura Greentech’s Low Carbon Infrastructure sector, globally. Derek has 25 years of experience as both a principal investor and strategic advisor, having executed over $60 billion of M&A, corporate finance, and project finance transactions for public and private corporations as well as individual assets and asset portfolios across a broad range of industries.
His recent transaction experience includes advising on the sale of Urban Grid to Brookfield; Shell on the acquisition of Savion; Enlight on its entry into the U.S. market through the acquisition of Clenera and subsequent U.S. IPO; Brookfield’s take-private of TerraForm Power; AltaGas on the sale of its distributed generation portfolio; Macquarie Infrastructure Corporation on the sale of its partnership interest in Intersect Power as well as its operating wind and solar portfolios; the founder of 8 minutenergy on the sale of the company; the Board of Directors of Deepwater Wind on its sale to Ørsted; and Atlantica Yield on its strategic partnership with Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp.
Derek joined Nomura Greentech from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he was a Director in the Energy & Power group within Investment Banking. Prior to Merrill Lynch, Derek was involved in the launch of Hydro Capital Corporation, a private equity investment firm involved in infrastructure projects in under-served markets.
Derek holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University, where he was a four-year member of the varsity football team and earned All-Ivy League honors as a running back.
